The author keeps referring to things I "can" do (but cannot) with the Kindle Fire HD and features that I sure don't have on my new Kindle Fire HD. What a joke! It is impossible for any manual to be less helpful. I had to keep checking to see if he was really talking about the Kindle Fire HD. Sure mentions a lot of things my brand new Kindle Fire HD supposedly has, but doesn't, and things that I am supposed to be able to do that I have tried but can't. (And I am very computer literate.) It is absurd that I have been on the phone to customer support with questions about the Fire HD more this week than I have in the I have in the three years I have owned Kindle e-book readers. Does the writer even have a Kindle Fire HD? I have to wonder if he knows much about it because my Kindle Fire HD doesn't have the features that his does. After 2 weeks I am not sure if I like the Kindle Fire HD or not and this "manual" doesn't make me feel that I can't live without it. I so happy that I didn't have the money to spend for a more "advanced" version of this tablet.
I thought I already wrote a review on this...Well, it was a gift. I read reviews about several help books for the Kindle Fire HD before settling on this one. I decided on this book for my grandfather. The book is great...set up well for someone who has very little knowledge about the internet, computers, etc. (That's why I bought it!) I will definitely consider other books in The Missing Manual series.
Nothing new that you couldn't figure out via internet or on your own. I'm a big fan of the missing manuals but this is the first one of run into that I've found useless. All of the information you can find by just using the kindle, which is a great platform or searching the internet. I was trying to add my e-book collection and there were no real explanations here. Bummer because I like the series. If you know how to turn your kindle on, you don't need this book.
I have used and enjoyed a Kindle Keyboard for several years but I wanted to expand my horizons with the Kindle Fire HD, I asked for it last Christmas and got it; however, it was my first tablet and the learning curve was daunting. Needing a manual, I first tried the Norato beginners' book but that didn’t have the information I needed. I have been delighted with this “missing manual†by Peter Meyers and I recommend it.To teach myself how best to use the Fire HD, I went through the book step-by-step, working along with my Kindle Fire HD as I went. As a result I am now entirely comfortable with the device and its bells and whistles. Even someone who doesn’t have time to go through the manual from beginning to end as I did, should find it a most useful tool. The book is logically organized with an excellent table of contents and index and the author anticipates questions from the reader and answers them fully and with a good deal of humor. This was one of my better Amazon purchases – practical and fun to use.
Helpful, but still a difficult project, to understand this new device. This book is a big help
I am a senior and not use to all these programs on my kindle. I didn't even know what they ment. I was so mad at Kindle for not having any kind of information book when I bought it, I almost returned it. They said it was all on line, but when you don't know to much about on line use, how are you to get the proper information. This book is great, it really lets you know how to get around your Kindle and the programs on it. I really learn new thing I could do and a easier way to install books and programs I wanted. It was worth what I paid for it.I am just sorry I had to pay extra for it. Kindle should have at least had some kind of starter manual. Thank you for this book and if any of my friends buy a Kindle I'll let them know about your book.
I've found this manual to be of great value in learning more about my Kindle Fire and what I can do with it.Why isn't this included with each Kindle? Especially for those of us who aren't as informed as a lot of people are but yet we want to learn how to use our Kindle Fire HD.Thanks, Peter Meyers for writing this manual!LaVerna McT.
I'm not tech challenged, but maybe it was because my kindle is basically an android device that I had problems getting into my kindle. This book finally got me loving my Kindle. So many plain, simple instructions. Charge extra for a kindle and include it with the purchase! Now I'm not chained to my desktop or big laptop anymore. Finally.
