Michelle Waitzman was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, where she worked in TV production for almost 20 years. We've been thinking about immigrating to New Zealand for well over a year now. I've read several expat memoirs, blogs, watched vlogs, and scoured over many websites that could give us any insight into the Visa process, settling down, types of work available and work culture itself, costs of living, differences in areas, how people tend to view immigrants, etc. While I've been able to gather bits and pieces of what it's like, this book was the best rundown I've read. The author touched on every subject I had questions about.It gave me a good summary on the country's people and history, all the way to current day. I now have a good idea on what life in each region is like and where would be the best places to raise our family regardless of where we find employment. It answered my questions on the day-to-day things like owning a car, getting mail, tv/phone/internet options, setting up a bank account, things to be mindful of when buying or renting, schools for different ages, how taxes work, healthcare availability, local transport, and weather differences. She even gives a good way of planing a "scouting trip" there before your big move happens.And near the back of the book she list's the ways you can contact several agencies for various needs. And for added fun she throws in a list of Kiwi slang and pronunciation of Te Reo Maori and it's commonly used words.Every page is useful in some fashion and I found it to be a must read for anyone planing to live there.
